I’m Nicolas Shin — a renewable-energy consultant and wildlife photographer based in Dubai, UAE.
My career has been built around accelerating the energy transition — from wind and hydrogen projects to carbon-capture solutions. It’s a world of data, engineering, and systems thinking — but also one driven by a deep respect for nature.
In my spare time, I love nothing more than exploring the UAE’s wild landscapes and capturing the incredible wildlife that thrives here. Photography became my way to reconnect with the natural world that inspires my professional mission.
I’ve spent countless hours roaming the dunes of the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve, the shores of Al Qudra Lakes, and the rocky outcrops of the Hajar Mountains, always searching for that fleeting moment when light, movement, and emotion align.
One of my favourite subjects is the wildlife of the Middle East — whether flying through the sky, roaming the desert floor, or gliding beneath the water’s surface. From the vibrant flamingos that gather near Dubai’s mangroves to the elusive Arabian red fox and the blacktip reef sharks swimming off Fujairah’s coast, each encounter reveals the region’s surprising richness and resilience.
But it’s not just about taking beautiful images. As someone who cares deeply about environmental conservation, I believe photography can play a vital role in promoting awareness and appreciation for the natural world. Through each photograph, I hope to inspire others to notice, respect, and protect the fragile ecosystems around us.
My work has been featured in exhibitions such as Secrets of UAE Wildlife” at the Alliance Française Dubai, organized with Emirates Nature-WWF and the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve.
Whether I’m studying energy systems or photographing wildlife, my purpose is the same — to bridge technology and wilderness, and to show that protecting nature isn’t separate from progress, but part of it.
Whether I'm exploring a new nature reserve or simply taking a stroll through the city's parks and gardens, I'm constantly on the lookout for new opportunities to capture the beauty of the UAE's wildlife. For me, photography is not just a hobby, it's a way of life, and I can't wait to see where my next adventure will take me.
I am always excited to learn and meet new people, don't hesitate to reach out!
